6 Ways to Get Involved During National Skating Month
National Skating Month is now in full swing and we want to see you on the ice! Here are a few ways you can join in the fun.
This year’s theme is “Join in the FUN, Skating is for Everyone!” This theme hopes to highlight that skating is truly for all, regardless of people’s backgrounds, abilities and skill levels. Anyone can be involved in the sport and has a place in the community.
Here are a few ways you can celebrate:
1. Find a National Skating Month event near you
Last year, more than 425 clubs hosted events in their communities and there are plenty of opportunities to skate this year. If you are interested in participating in an event, check out your local rink for more information. With 587 member clubs around the country, you are bound to find an event going on in your area. 3. Host an event
Hosting an event at your local rink is a great way to reach out to the community and show that skating is for everyone. If your club is interested in hosting an event for National Skating Month, click here for a list of resources to help you make your event a success. One way to make sure of that is to purchase a National Skating Month Kit. Kits will equip your club with tons of fun souvenir items to give away, digital activities and resources like our admin manual to help you organize your event. Find the National Skating Month Kit order form here. Get yours while supplies last.
4. Encourage new skaters to join
We want you to share your love of skating and teach everyone you know that skating is for everyone. Check to see if your local risk is offering discounts if you bring a friend or invite a friend to come to an open skate event with you. Skating is more fun with friends anyway, am I right?
5. Try new ways to skate
After you master the basics of skating, you can confidently try the different ice sports. Want to impress your friends by showing off your new skills on the ice? Find out about local figure skating clubs, speed skating teams or hockey associations and what they have to offer. You’ll be twirling, scoring goals or winning races in no time.
6. Share your story with us on social media
To help spread the fun, share your celebrations with us on social media by tagging Learn to Skate USA or by using #NationalSkatingMonth and #SkatingIsForEveryone for a chance to be featured on U.S. Figure Skating or Learn to Skate USA’s social channels throughout the month.
